In 2021, as part of an investment, we bought a new chrome tub, which is 2.5 metres long, so the 2 m long bumpers of American cars are no problem anymore.

Our chrome plating department specialises primarily for the chrome plating of oldtimer cars and motorcycles, with 90% of our capacity devoted to this type of works. By prior consultation, we can of course also take on other orders, for example, the restoration of old coffee machines is now very popular.

But we also do zink plating of other parts, e.g. for Schwarzmüller we galvanize several tons of goods per week, and we also do chemical brownings, one of our biggest customers is HILTI.

During normal opening hours, we welcome our customers at our plant in Kecskemét (Hungary), where it is possible to have a personal consultation, visit the plant, and hand in parts. In addition, we participate every year in the Retro Classics exhibition in Stuttgart, one of the largest events in its category. Here we also offer the possibility to meet us personally, to present samples and to give professional advice to all interested visitors.

With almost 20 years of experience behind us, we can say that in most cases we can save parts, even in the worst condition. Most of the problems are caused by parts that have been repaired in an unprofessional way and then come to us after a failed attempt.  Such attempts usually only make the situation worse, the part becomes deformed, thinned, leaks further. Unfortunately, in such cases, the base metal may become so damaged that a quality result cannot be achieved or only at an unrealistic cost. We point out that in most cases, home repairs cause more damage than if you had not started with it!

In general, we recommend that if an aftermarket part exists, it is worth buying. It is usually cheaper and quicker. It should be taken into consideration that by the time you remove the old coating from a 30-40-50 year old part, make the necessary repairs, polish it to a mirror and apply the new coatings, you will have used so much chemicals, energy and labour that you will not be able to compete with mass-produced parts in terms of time and price. In some cases (base metal in too bad a condition, difficult to polish, accessible surfaces... etc. we strongly recommend this option)

Electroplating is a collective term for surface treatment with electricity, so the workpiece must conduct electricity. Plating plastic parts requires a completely different technology, we can only work with metal (conductive) parts.

The answer is clearly no and we do not carry out such work. One of the most important principles of our business policy is that we only do work that we can deliver a quality result and that is time, energy, chemicals, expertise, which comes at a cost. We do not add our name to non-professional results, and we do not accept such requests

Unfortunately, yes. In all cases we tell our customers that the price is determined by the hours of work required. It makes no difference to us whether we are working on parts for a Jaguar or a Trabant, we put in the time, effort and chemicals to achieve a quality result, so the basis of calculation is the same. When considering the overall value of the vehicle, it is of course worth considering whether it is worth the expense or whether it is an option to buy an aftermarket part.

Unfortunately not. There are no magic solutions, there are no miracle methods, similar unprofessional treatments can even damage the existing coating and make the situation even worse. If the client really wants a nice result, it is worth spending the time and money and opting for a professional solution, i.e. having the whole process done.

Restoring a vintage car is not a one or two week process, it often takes years to complete a full restoration. We recommend that you deliver the parts for chrome plating as soon as the car is dismantled, so that by the time the car is ready to be reassembled, the chrome plating is completed too. Depending on our current workload, we can offer lead times of 3 to 6 months, so it's worth thinking well in advance.

The potential areas of dissatisfaction (which we experience when we see work from elsewhere) can be many: spotting, polishing problems, surface refraction, etc... Most of these can be corrected, but it requires removing the old layers down to the base metal and starting the job from the beginning. Unfortunately, in these cases the previous expenditure was completely wasted, but in most cases we can rescue the workpiece. Working on other parts is also difficult because we don't know how the part was prepared. We can only guarantee the quality of what is made entirely within our company.

In principle, we always try to meet our customers' time requirements, so if you have a similar request, it is worth mentioning it in the request for quotation. 

 If we have the opportunity, we will of course comply with the request, but our experience in recent years has shown that there are more and more times when the plant is so busy that this is not possible. We continue to emphasize that we will do what we can, but as the process itself is very time and labour intensive, we are very time pressured. Extra urgent orders, such as chrome plating a complete car with a few weeks' notice, are practically physically impossible to fulfil, so it is worth calculating both the urgency and the urgency to have a realistic timeframe for our parts. Unfortunately, it is often the case that an order is received when the car is ready, only the chrome is missing and they want to assemble the car. Unfortunately, we do not have an express solution for these cases, at best you should expect a lead time of 1-2 months.

Perhaps one of the most common questions is what is the basis for pricing. Since we are mostly working with old parts, up to 50-60 years old, there are huge differences in condition between the various parts. The price is always determined by the hours of work involved, so it is essential to see the condition of the parts in order to be able to give a valid quote. Just consider that a bumper in basically perfect condition, slightly faded, is orders of magnitude less work than the same bumper on the same car, if it is dented, rusted through, deformed, the clamping is broken, etc. It would not be fair to charge the same price for the same part.
